twinkie of doom

On my trip to San Francisco last weekend ((btw, I went to San Francisco this past weekend)) I encountered one of these for the first time:

That’s a fried twinkie, purchased at the Santa Cruz boardwalk. And I confess I couldn’t take more than two bites of it before admitting defeat. I still need to try fried Oreos at some point, though…

Here in the UK there is a tradition (mostly in the North) to eat deep fried Mars Bars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep-fried_Mars_bar). I haven’t tried them myself, but I can imagine them having the same effect as the Twinkies. 😛

DFT’s are pure win with a touch of awesome! I get them when I visit a friend in Iowa over the Memorial day weekend. They also usually have deep fried Oreo’s and deep fried Snickers available at the concession stands. The best part about DFT’s is when you are walking around enjoying them, you can almost feel your arteries hardening….

Other tasty good treats would be Elephant Ears and Funnel Cakes. I only ran into Elephant Ears when I moved to Michigan. For some reason the ears are not popular in PA where I grew up. For those not in the know, Elephant Ears are fried dough while Funnel Cakes are fired batter.

Good stuffs… nothing like committing slow suicide by food on warm spring/summer days…

I’ve heard of DFT and Deep-Fried Mars bars, both of which sound like a happy death on a stick, in my opinion. Have you tried deep fried ice cream? That’s fun stuffs as well.
